When some customers hear the word Orangery they think of a very expensive but exquisite room, what we like to explain is that Orangeries were initially built around the 17th Century to protect citrus fruits against winter seasons and when the British went through the age of greater maritime exploration, they extended the use of an Orangery to house exotic plants, that could not adapt to our climate, that they brought back from all corners of the World, so you can see why they may be on the upper scale of price due to its rich history. It wasn’t until the 1700’s that they had become popular by being the additional room to many Manor Houses in Europe.

When Orangeries were first built they were limited to materials available, such as thick iron, so in order to be built in a timely manor it was built with more masonry to glass – not ideal!!! When the industrial revolution took place, architects and home owners were able to take advantage of the latest materials and technology allowing glazing to become the major proportion of the roof with slimmer sight-lines. This allowed all (that were fortunate to own an Orangery) to gaze upon a masterpiece of architectural brilliance.

Your Decor Home Improvements Orangery will be made from high quality, Engineered Hardwood Timber, for durability and structural integrity. But, for a cost effective solution to Hardwood Timber, we could also produce an Orangery in High Quality uPVC or Slimline Aluminium to achieve a look desirable to most but also keeping more money in your pockets!

Using Engineered Hardwood Timber, High Quality uPVC or Slimline Aluminium Glazing, we can build an Orangery to any shape or size. With our surveyor having 45 years experience in the trade, he has helped us bring more projects to life by adapting the surrounding area where customers have been told otherwise.

We, at Decor Home Improvements, believe that an Orangery is only as good as its foundations and as Orangeries require Building Control we ensure that every job that requires foundations are dug to the correct depth and filled with the correct mixture of concrete. Where extra depth foundation are required and it is deemed unsafe by the Building Control Officers to be a risk to our workers we will use Piled Foundations. Piled foundations are quicker, cleaner and sometimes stronger than concrete filled foundations.
